Reset to Factory Settings

Choose one of two methods:

Option 1: Reset via LCD Panel

  1. On the front LCD panel, locate Factory Reset or equivalent.
  2. Enter the default PIN: 1234 (if you haven’t changed it).

The device reboots. Look for a displayed IP like 192.168.88.1 (additional IPs can be ignored).

Option 2: Reset via Winbox

  1. Use the Winbox utility from MikroTik docs.
  2. Under System → Reset Configuration, confirm to wipe the router back to factory defaults.
4

Establish Internet Access

Ensure the router can reach the internet:

Check for IP Address

  • In Winbox, go to IP → DHCP Client.
  • If you see ether1 with a valid IP (not 0.0.0.0), skip to Confirm Internet Access.

Get an IP via DHCP

  1. Click Add New in the DHCP Client window.
  2. Select ether1 for Interface.
  3. Check Use Peer DNS.
  4. Click Apply, then OK.
  5. Verify a valid IP appears under IP Address.

Confirm Internet Access

Open a terminal in Winbox:

ping altostrat.io

If you see continuous pings, the router is online.

5

Update Firmware on MikroTik

  1. In Winbox, go to System → Packages.
  2. Click Check for Updates.
  3. Choose stable from the Channel dropdown.
  4. Click Check for Updates again. Compare Installed Version to Latest Version.

If different, click Download & Install.

The router reboots after installing firmware. Log back in and check Packages to confirm.

If an upgrade channel is available for a major version jump, select it and repeat the process.
